Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is a key regulator of renal phosphate excretion that is increased in a range of inherited and acquired conditions. This can lead to chronic hypophosphataemia, often unrecognised, and debilitating musculoskeletal symptoms, rickets or osteomalacia.

Highly prevalent but underdiagnosed, primary aldosteronism should be considered in any individual with hypertension given the lack of specific symptoms and signs. Effective targeted therapies are readily available to prevent the deleterious effects of aldosterone excess.

Incidental detection of thyroid nodules is increasing and, although most are benign, they require further investigation. The Thyroid Imaging, Reporting and Data System (TIRADS) provides a validated framework for assessment to help determine the malignancy risk of detected nodules.
