Foreword from the Editors-in-Chief

Changing of the guard

It has been a pleasure and honour for me to have been the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of Endocrinology Today these past eight years. Across that period, practically every aspect of clinical endocrinology relevant to primary care in Australia has been addressed in a user-friendly format. This includes refining transitional care across our complex healthcare system interfaces, holistic patient-centred team-based care approaches, and harnessing of new technology in assessment and treatment.

I pass on the baton and complete my senior role with this established popular educational journal in an excellent position, now with the new ideas and energy of the incoming Editor-in-Chief, Associate Professor Roger Chen, to lead the way in further enhancing the Endocrinology Today trajectory. Roger will be ably helped by the superb Editorial Director and Publisher, Judy Passlow, and her team, including the very able Managing Editor, Marie Lofthouse, with whom I have much enjoyed working. I look forward to delivering my continuing support now as an Endocrinology Today Editorial Board member adding value in that capacity, serving under the leadership of Roger, with whom we are all in very good hands.

My sincere thanks to Judy and colleagues, our Editorial Board, the many author contributors to, and reviewers of, Endocrinology Today articles across recent years, and the keen biotech and biopharma industry, as well, of course, to our ever-engaged audience, all for making this venture so worthwhile in delivering national high-quality collegial healthcare education in endocrinology.

Professor Stephen Twigg MB BS(HONS-I), PhD, FRACP
Outgoing Editor-in-Chief, Endocrinology Today

It is a great honour to take over in continuity as Editor-in-Chief of Endocrinology Today from Professor Stephen Twigg. Steve has completed his role as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief and will continue to provide valuable support and advice as an Editorial Board member.

Since the inception of Endocrinology Today, Steve and the Editorial Board have commissioned an impressive array of articles in endocrinology and diabetes, providing a useful resource for clinical care. As a reader, I have always found the guidance from these articles to be very valuable for everyday practice.

Steve has had a distinguished medical and academic career. He is Head of Endocrinology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and has academic appointments as Professor of Medicine, The University of Sydney and Kellion Professor of Endocrinology. He also holds the title of Stan Clark Chair in Diabetes and is Deputy Head of The University of Sydney Central Clinical School. This year, he was awarded the annual premier national Kellion Award by the Australian Diabetes Society for his outstanding leadership in diabetes research, education and clinical care. Steve continues to lead and supervise translational and clinical research, including at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and The University of Sydney, as well as in a rural and regional capacity in endocrine Aboriginal healthcare, and we wish him well in those ventures.

On behalf of the current Editorial Board, the publishers and the readers, I’d like to express my gratitude to Steve for his inspiring leadership of Endocrinology Today. We aim to continue and enhance the high standards set by Steve and the team.
